Do you have a marketing mind and want to help change the world (or at least our bit of it)?
Danyadara is a non-profit association focused on reversing desertification in our land, located within Suryalila, a top-class yoga retreat centre in Southern Andalusia. Our next big milestone is to transform a barren 7ha wheat field, traditionally used in monoculture agriculture, and transform it into an abundant food forest.
We will do this implementing creative regenerative techniques that work with nature instead of against it, imitating natural processes, making the most of the scarce water we have, and refilling the soil with carbon and biodiversity so it grows in productivity and health each year.
Imagine food being produced, 365 days a year, in a lush environment that helps nature thrive while reversing degradation and desertification processes. That is our goal, and we hope this will be a legacy for generations to come.
To kickstart this project over the next couple of years, we are preparing a crowdfunder, launching August 1st, to raise the €40.000 that we will need to buy trees, build infrastructure, and pay for labour and equipment.
Our marketing team is currently working enthusiastically as August 1st approaches, but we need two volunteers to join during the last week of July and run the crowdfunder with us until the end of September at least… we would love to have you here for a longer time 🙂
This is a very special volunteering opportunity, as the focus will initially be on the marketing side of Danyadara, but if you have an interest in permaculture or gardening, we can work some hours a week for that as well.
This is what we are looking for…
People that are:
- Marketing oriented
- Social media savvy
- Able to communicate eloquently, enthusiastically and happily with large audiences
- Techy or wise regarding digital marketing platforms (mail marketing, wordpress, shorteners, google docs, etc. etc.)
- Caring towards the planet, invested in community living
- Creative, able to have your own ideas and contribute to the ideas of others
- Fun to be around
- Native in the English language
- Able to work on your own as well as part of a team
- Have your own laptop to work on
Tasks for this project will include (but not limited to):
- Emailing donors and potential donors
- Updating our social media channels
- Managing perks for donors
- Tracking progress
- Coming up with new ideas and mid-campaign pushes when needed
- Creating content (blog posts, photography, emails, mini-videos)
- Keeping up energy
Our volunteers are required to work 6 days per week for a total of 6 hours per day. Marketing volunteers sometime will need to spend some time in the garden, connecting with the project and the gardening crew. If this is something you’d like to do, we can arrange it, although the crowdfunder will take priority when workload requires it.
Yoga teachers are welcome, as Suryalila offers a class every morning and afternoon for their staff. So if you wish to teach you could be teaching one of these classes around twice a week, which can be part of your volunteer hours.
In exchange for your help, Suryalila offers yoga, meditation, fantastic organic vegetarian meals, comfortable accommodation, use of our facilities and really good company. The place is stunningly beautiful and volunteers love being here.
The volunteers mostly stay in our property next door, either in the house or in a glamping area. The accommodation is clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious and it is situated in an olive grove. You will share a room with one, two or three other volunteers (in larger rooms or tents) of the same sex.
Please note you cannot choose your own accommodation, it will be assigned to you as available.
You are required to have travel/health insurance or a European Health card.
If you are conscientious, good-natured, easy-going, respectful and flexible, you may apply. Please apply by emailing email@example.com
*When applying, please write a few paragraphs about yourself. Your nationality, age, interests and work experience. You don’t need to send a formal cv. It’s always nice to receive a photo of you too.
*Please read the following charter to be aware of our important regulations:*
THE SURYALILA VOLUNTEER CHARTER
All our volunteers are valued members of the team and we are very grateful for your contribution and creativity. We want you to enjoy your time with us and leave after a valuable and fulfilling life experience.
In order to work together with the staff and other members of the team we ask you as a volunteer to be aware of the following guidelines and respect them during your time with us:
RETREAT CENTRE ATMOSPHERE: Suryalila is a retreat centre and our guests are here to step back from the world and get some peace and quiet. It is really important that as a volunteer you understand and respect this, and act accordingly. All the groups are different and it is important volunteers are sensitive to the requirements of the different groups.
Please be very aware of independent guests. Talk to them, invite them to sit with you or sit with them at meal-times so they feel included. Help them to feel like part of the family.
TREATMENTS: Please do not offer or give any treatments, healings or massages to any of the guests unless you are specifically here to do that.
Please note that we do offer a discounted price if you yourself would like to book a massage at times the guests are not around. You can book the massage through the office but pay the therapist directly with cash. The price for you is 28 Euros per hour or 41 Euros for an hour and a half.
HEALTH: You should be in good all round health and able to work 6 hours per day 6 days per week. Volunteers from outside Spain must have their own health insurance or travel insurance with health cover.
SAFETY: Please do not use any power tools without permission or climb up ladders etc. Also if you do not feel comfortable using sharp knives in the kitchen please tell us. Your safety is of prime importance to us.
RELATIONS WITH GUESTS: Volunteers represent Suryalila and it is important as such you ensure all your relations with the guests are professional and appropriate. We encourage informality in the relations between staff, guests and volunteers; however certain lines should not be crossed. (e.g.: relations of an intimate nature).
YOUR LIVING SPACE: It is very important that you observe tidiness and cleanliness in your own space at all times. You are responsible to make your own bed every day, wash your sheets and towels and keep your clothes and personal items tidy. There is a cleaning lady, Isabel, who will mop the floors and clean your bathrooms once a week. If you are in San Pedro you are also responsible to keep the Kitchen, fridge and living space clean. If you are unable to observe this request you will not be permitted to stay.
VOLUNTEER LOCKERS: In the middle room at Suryalila there are shelves for your belongings if you bring a bag up during the day. You can also keep your coats there.
HANG OUT SPACE: The volunteers can use the mezzanine outside the Ganesha Yoga Shala as a hang out space when not working. Please keep it very tidy and clean. Be very aware if a massage is happening you need to be very quiet in that area. Do not hang out in the dining room lounge area as this is reserved for the guests. Please never lay around in public areas.
DAY OFF RIDES: We are happy to provide rides to the bus station for you between 9am and 6pm. After 6pm you are required to take a taxi. We can give you the phone number of the taxi company. If you need a ride to the bus station you need to let us know the day before.
CARS: Never use any of the cars without express permission from the Suryalila Office Staff.
TIME OFF: If you are staying for three months and wish to take a few consecutive days off for any reason please inform the office well in advance, preferably on arrival. Anyone staying less than three months has one day off per week.
DRUGS AND ALCOHOL:
Recreational drugs are not permitted at Suryalila or San Pedro. Smoking is not permitted except on the driveway of Suryalila or outside at San Pedro.
Alcohol should only be consumed in MODERATION. Please do not have binges or parties at San Pedro. Please remember this is a retreat centre and act accordingly, even at San Pedro. Anyone not respecting this may be asked to leave.
MEAT: Please do not bring meat or fish onto the property, including at San Pedro.
