Getting to know the topic of permaculture is diving into how things work in nature. The concept of permaculture is complex. It requires a wide angle view and cannot be explained with a simple description. We could describe itas a holistic approach to sustainable planning, based on principles of natural ecosystems and supported by ethical values. It considers the environmental, economic and social part of it. It focuses on the coexistence of human and non-humans to keep a harmonious balance that could allow the sustainability of planet Earth.
Connected to permaculture we can find a range of different topics such as environmental conservation, land management, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, organic gardening and farming, planning settlements, economy and human relationships in order to create sensible systems for more sustainable living.

The word permaculture brings together permanent and agriculture. Our goal practising . A permaculture farmer cares for the land and has ethical rules to not hinder the soil and the environment but rather to regenerate it.
Permaculture is ethically oriented and is a very holistic way of relating with our environment As Geoff Lawton puts it “Permaculture is the organizing process systemizing ethically all land use practices, permaculture unites all those practices into one ethical foundation”.

Permaculture is based on principles, which are focused on observations of nature. First we observe how things work naturally and then we find out our interactions which can “sow seeds”.
In practical terms, permaculture has 3 simple rules to follow. These are universal ethical rules that apply no matter your climate.

Work the land as least as possible, this does not mean to not use machines, but big tractors compacting the soil are best avoided or if used with as much precaution as possible. This can be done by crop rotation wherein 3 vegetable rotations are done before working the soil again, no-dig techniques, and obviously mulching keeping the ground friable, making us not have to decompact the soil 3 times a year.

Certainly, what you can do – depends very much on where you are.
Be as self-sufficient with one thing as you can, grow herbs on your patio in pots, you have a small garden area, build raised beds, do not throw compost away in the normal bin, make your own compost or make a vermiculture to give food scraps too. And after all you can find local organic farmers and support them. Every small contribution has an impact on a larger scale!

Plant trees and crops in a diversified way, we do not work with monoculture orchards with bare soil underneath, we combine different types of fruit trees, crops, nitrogen fixing trees together to create collaboration between plants.

The land we are based on was used for intensive monoculture of hay, but we do everything to bring more diversity to it. For example we apply Syntropic Agroforestry: utilising knowledge from nature to reproduce a forest in as little time as possible, promoting diversity, increasing yield of fruit trees and crops by tree collaboration.

It goes as follows – water needs to slow, sink and spread and we aim to attain as much of 0 water run off on the land. We let water from the showers, sinks go to our grey water beds, directly to the land We build swales where water naturally sinks, we make check-dams to slow down water. We have a 5 year experience working with keylines
We have had a consultation and water retention course on the land with the help of Tamera, slowly but surely reducing water run off to 0.
